Aspire Climbing & Fitness Inc is a dynamic, full-service climbing gym that brings climbing, ninja warrior, and fitness together under one roof. JOB DESCRIPTION

Our Youth Climbing Coaches are ambassadors of development. They build valuable life skills in young children through the natural challenges experienced through rock climbing. Coaches cultivate confidence, problem solving skills and perseverance. They teach healthy goal setting, the importance of practice to improve, and reflection with success and failure. Applicants must have a foundation of climbing knowledge and skills. Through our Coaches Training Programs, we will introduce the fundamentals of long-term athlete development for healthy growth in sport. We will train coaches with lesson plans and how to scale based on age and skill level. We will introduce coaches to our library of skills, technical drills and applicable activities to maximize class engagement and ensure that each climber learns something new in each class. We are looking for coaches of all ability and experience level and willing to train applicants with a passion for climbing, to share their passion with others and self-improvement through the mentoring of new and upcoming climbers. Classes are run over 3 seasons which coincide with the school calendar (fall, winter, spring). Coaches may also be involved as camp counsellors during summer seasons. Climbing coaches must enjoy working in a family-friendly environment. 2+ years of climbing experience is an asset. Training of high value applicants may be considered from our Coaches Training Program.


THE ROLE


We are a matrix organization with all team members wearing several hats. You will be under the guidance of the Program Manager and Operations Manager. Climbing Coaches will:

  • Be passionate about rock climbing with a desire to share their passion with others

  • Strong in their communication skills, both oral and written for progression trackers and communicating with parents when necessary

  • Be collaborative with other coaches, with a desire to learn from one another to implement the best approach when coaching young climbers

  • Open to new ideas for to scale lessons because no two climbers are a like

  • Follow the long-term athlete development outline to ensure a safe developmental path is followed for young climbers

  • Communicate effectively with a positive approach to rewarding success and learning from failure

  • Believe that nothing is impossible, and the word “can’t” is merely a doubt in one’s self

  • Reinforce the power of the word “yet”, which implies anything is possible with preparation, practice and a growth mindset

  • Reference Aspire coaching tools and our library of lesson plans, technical lessons and activities

  • Ensure coaching is age appropriate and engaging by scaling lessons to the various needs of individuals

  • Explore new ideas and workshop new lessons with the Program Manager before implementation

  • Be nimble as a coach, because no two climbers are alike and may require different approaches to achieve the same goal

  • Prioritize climber safety and be mindful of other climbers, members and guest when running classes

  • Participate in staff meetings, training and product knowledge sessions to further skills and team building

  • Participate in work or play during special events and climbing competitions

Applicants must have a strong work ethic, must be efficient and able to work on a reliable schedule. Applicants should have a positive attitude, be quick problem solvers, and must work well with others. Climbing coaches must be collaborative in a team environment with productivity for independent work. YOUR WORK HOURS


Regular weekly part-time hours may be available. Consistent availability is preferred for 2-3 coaching classes per week with additional opportunities for our Welcome Desk.



YOUR REWARD


Climbing coaches may earn between $15.60 to $18.75 based on skill and experience. Apprentice coaches start at the lower end with the ability to increase by achieving performance and quality milestones with each review period. FREE access to the facility during business hours for climbing and ninja. A monthly guest pass to be used for friends and family. Discounts and pro deals on climbing gear from the best suppliers in the industry.



ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS


Applicants must be minimum employment age in Ontario. Staff must be able to perform manual labour, which may include working at height. Vulnerable sector check required for individuals 18 years and older.
